Team India cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara is in tremendous form in the ongoing Royal London One-Day Cup 2022 tournament. He slammed consecutive centuries for Sussex in the competition. The right-handed batter scored 174 runs against Surrey at the County Ground in Hove on Sunday (August 14). Sussex eventually won the match by a huge margin of 216 runs.

Cheteswar Pujara led the Sussex team in the match in place of injured Tom Haines. Batting first, Sussex put on 378 runs on the board, on the back of centuries from Tom Clark and Cheteswar Pujara. They got off to a dismal start, losing both their openers, Harrison Ward and Ali Orr early for nine runs. However, Pujara got together with Clark to bail them out of trouble. They put on a 205 runs partnership for the third wicket-stand.

Cheteshwar Pujara slammed 174 runs off just 131 deliveries. His knock included twenty boundaries and five sixes and came at a strike rate of 132.82. Earlier, in the tournament, Pujara scored 107 runs against Warwickshire at Birmingham. The Indian cricketer joined Sussex after remaining unsold in the Indian Premier League 2022 mega-auction. So far, his stint in County cricket has been very successful for him and the Sussex team.

Cheteshwar Pujara’s 174 runs knock is now the highest ever List A score by a Sussex player. So in the Royal London One-Day Cup 2022, he has scored 193 runs in four innings at an average of 64.33. His consecutive centuries have left the fans impressed who have lauded, Pujara’s performance in the tournament.

Sussex ranks second in Group A points table

With three wins from five matches and a positive Net Run Rate of 1.601, Sussex is placed second on the points table of Group A in the Royal London One-Day Cup 2022. They lost to Nottinghamshire in the first game, however, have made a good comeback in the tournament so far.

Sussex will be taking on Durham next, on Wednesday, August 17 at the Riverside Ground, Chester-le-Street.
