Punjab Kings (PBKS) all-rounder Glenn Maxwell will miss the IPL 2025 clash against five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Chepauk Stadium on Wednesday, April 30. PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer revealed at the toss (as reported by Cricbuzz) that Maxwell has been sidelined due to a fractured finger.
“Unfortunate that he’s got a fractured finger (Maxwell). Haven’t decided on a replacement so far.”
Marco Jansen has come into the PBKS playing XI in place of Glenn Maxwell, while Prabhsimran Singh has been added to the list of substitutes. In contrast, MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings have gone with the same playing XI as their previous match.
Maxwell’s injury could turn out to be a blessing in disguise for PBKS, as the Australian all-rounder has struggled with the bat, scoring just 0, 30, 1, 3, 7, and 7 in his six innings. With the ball, the off-spinner has taken only four wickets across those games.
PBKS had spent ₹4.2 crore to secure Maxwell’s services at last year’s mega auction. His performance in the previous season for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) was also underwhelming, with just 48 runs and four wickets in seven matches.
PBKS choose to bowl first against CSK in the IPL 2025 clash
Punjab captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and decided to bowl first against CSK in their IPL 2025 encounter. Speaking at the toss (as per Cricbuzz), he stated:
“We’re going to bowl first.”
Punjab Kings (PBKS) currently sit fifth on the points table with five wins from nine games. Their previous match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) was washed out due to rain, earning them only one point.
