The Royal Challengers Bangalore will be sporting a green jersey during the clash against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday, May 8 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The green jersey is part of Royal Challengers Bangalore’s initiative ‘Go Green’. It works towards raising awareness about a greener and more sustainable environment.

Since 2011, the franchise has continued the tradition of donning the green jersey one every Indian Premier League (IPL) season. However, only during the 2021 season, did they sport a blue jersey, to recognize the efforts of frontline workers during the covid-19 pandemic.

The franchise took to social media to reveal their new Green kit for the ‘Go Green’ initiative this season. “The Go Green sustainability initiative has been a huge part of our RCB culture since 2011. Over the years you’ve seen RCB sport the green jersey in a day game at the Chinnaswamy Stadium to create awareness around a greener and more sustainable planet earth,” said Virat Kohli in a clip shared by the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

“Continuing the ‘Go Green’ cause that we truly believe in, RCB will be wearing the green match kits on 8th of May when we take on Sunrisers Hyderabad,” he added.

How have the Royal Challengers Bangalore fared in their 10 ‘Go Green’ matches so far?

The Royal Challengers Bangalore are in a tough race for a spot in the playoffs of the Indian Premier League 2022 season. They rank fourth on the points table with 12 points from eleven matches. The franchise won its last encounter, defeating the Chennai Super Kings by 18 runs. They will be keen to continue the winning momentum in their ‘Go Green’ match.

However, Royal Challengers Bangalore’s performance over the years, in the ‘Go Green’ matches have not been great. They have won just two of their 10 games in green while one match got washed out due to rain. Hence, the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise will be hoping to change its fortunes this year.
