Why Will KL Rahul Miss The 1st ODI Against West Indies?

Team India vice-captain KL Rahul will miss the first ODI against West Indies scheduled to take place in Ahmedabad on February 6. The BCCI has mentioned that Rahul will join the 18-member squad after the 1st ODI and will be available for selection from the 2nd encounter.

It has been understood that KL Rahul will miss the first ODI in order to attend his sister’s wedding. There were chances of him being recalled to the squad to play the series opener after three players – Shikhar Dhawan, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shreyas Iyer – tested positive for COVID-19.

But with Rahul busy at his sister’s wedding, it has been confirmed now that he will only be available from the second ODI, a report in ESPNCricinfo suggested. However, the exact date of his sister’s wedding could not be ascertained.

KL Rahul is likely to join the squad on or before Sunday and undergo mandatory isolation for three days before joining the squad ahead of the 2nd ODI on February 9.
