Team India pacer Mukesh Kumar has had a memorable tour of the West Indies so far. On Thursday, July 27 he earned his maiden ODI cap ahead of the first ODI against West Indies at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados. He became the 251st player to represent India in One-day Internationals.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India shared a picture of Mukesh Kumar wearing his debut ODI cap. He has been brought into the playing XI after Mohammed Siraj was rested for the series. Siraj complained about a ‘sore ankle’ and has flown back home. Mukesh Kumar was handed his ODI cap by veteran India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.

Sharing Mukesh Kumar’s picture the BCCI wrote, “News from Barbados – Mukesh Kumar is all set to make his ODI debut for #TeamIndia”

Mukesh Kumar has 26 wickets in 24 List A matches, at an average of 37.46, with 3/71 as his best bowling figures. Earlier on the tour, the pacer made his Test debut for Team India. He replaced Shardul Thakur in the second Test, as the all-rounder had a niggle. Mukesh took two wickets at an average of 26.50 in the test match.

Team India wins the toss and opts to bowl

Team India skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first in the first ODI against West Indies at Barbados. Shardul Thakur is back in the team after missing the second Test due to a niggle. Meanwhile, Sanju Samson and Yuzvendra Chahal failed to make it to the playing XI.
