The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a star-studded 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022 on Monday. Sunil Gavaskar seemed pretty happy with the squad and was oozing with the return of Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel.

The squad announced is largely along the expected lines. Only Ravi Bishnoi was not considered for the World Cup despite playing well in the recently concluded Asia Cup 2022. He is in the stand-by list of four players. Left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh was picked to add variety to the pace attack, with Avesh Khan missing out.

Sunil Gavaskar while giving his verdict on the squad said that this team looks really good, especially with the pace duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel returning for the T20 World Cup. Speaking to India Today, Gavaskar said:

“This looks a very good team. With Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel coming in, it looks like India will be able to defend their totals. India have had problems in trying to defend totals. These two stalwarts coming in will certainly give the edge to India when defending totals.”

The former Indian skipper further urged fans to rally behind this side as Rohit Sharma and Co. chase their maiden world title since winning the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013.

“We can always crib about this thing and that thing. But now the selection is done, this is India’s team. So let’s not ask why not this, why not that? We should back this team 100 per cent. Now that the selection is done, it’s our team, back them 100 per cent,” Gavaskar further added.
