The novel coronavirus pandemic has, so far, wreaked havoc in everyday life and cancelled or postponed major sporting events. A few notable are the Tokyo Olympics, Euro 2020, Wimbledon 2020, PSL 2020, IPL 2020, etc. With lesser chances of the men’s T20 World Cup also going ahead as per schedule, Team India opener Rohit Sharma spilt the beans on this regard.

The vice-captain of the Indian National Cricket Team Rohit Sharma wants to win the ICC World Cup, as it is the pinnacle in the game of cricket. He had a dream run in the 2019 ICC World Cup, where he ended as the highest run-scorer but unfortunately, failed to take his side home in the semifinal.

However, his target to win world cups for the country isn’t over yet, as he is looking forward to playing T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to play in Australia. He revealed that winning a world cup is something that he and his teammates have dreamt together. Rohit expressed his hope in lifting the trophy in the near future.

“Winning the World Cup is a dream of all us, together. I want to win World Cups. Of course, every time you go out there, you want to win every game. But the World Cup is something that you know is the pinnacle of everything. I want to win World Cups,” Rohit said.

“We are really not sure when this World Cup (T20 World Cup) is going to happen. As and when it happens, we will have a fair amount of time to prepare for it. The cricket boards around the world are not going to say ‘everything is fine, we will schedule the World Cup’,” Rohit Sharma said at India Today E-Conclave Corona Series.

Preparation time is going to be given:

However, Rohit Sharma hopes there will be enough time for the players to get back to rhythm and start playing cricket in their usual self.

”Of course, preparation time is going to be given for all the countries because all the countries are under lockdown. Nobody’s playing, nobody’s training. The limited stuff at home is not enough,” he added.

Rohit Sharma topped the batting charts at the 2019 World Cup with 648 runs from 9 matches. The Mumbaikar has the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup and 2013 ICC Champions Trophy in his cabinet of ICC silverware.

Meanwhile, the International Cricket Council (ICC) is all set to discuss the fate of the T20 World Cup in Thursday’s Chief Executives’ Committee (CEC) meeting on Thursday, given the travel restrictions that have been enforced in Australia.
