The 23-year-old Rishabh Pant, who has become India’s latest cricketing sensation with his antics on the field, couldn’t quite make an impact in the first innings of the WTC Final against New Zealand. He was dismissed on 4 by Jamieson, trying to chase a delivery well wide outside the off-stump.
He played a very uncharacteristic innings up to that point, getting off the mark on the 20th delivery he faced. Pant couldn’t adjust to the immense amount of swing generated by the Kiwi pacers, with Trent Boult, in particular, exposing the southpaw’s weaknesses in swinging conditions.
After scoring a boundary to open his account, Pant got carried away and went after a length delivery near the tramline. He only managed to get a healthy edge, which was gobbled up at second slip by a reverse-cupping Tom Latham.
Soon after Rishabh Pant’s dismissal, fans took to social media to fire shots for not showing maturity with the bat once again.

Patience is the key under such overcast conditions here in Southampton but it was always going to run out sooner or later in #RishabhPant’s case.#WTCFinal21 #INDvsNZ

Advantage New Zealand in Southampton
India were in a spot of bother after the dismissal, with the score reading 156/5. Eventually, after Rahane’s dismissal, none of the Indian batsmen made a significant contribution and were bundled out for a below-par 217. Kyle Jamieson was the pick of the bowlers, with his fifth five-wicket haul in just 8 career matches.
New Zealand got off to a safe start, with their openers Tom Latham and Devon Conway seeing the team through to Tea without any damage. India finally managed to draw the first blood courtesy of Ravichandran Ashwin. The off-spinner removed Tom Latham but Conway continued his brilliant form to bring another half-century.
