Dinesh Karthik, the Indian wicketkeeper-batter and the man of comebacks, has backed the former Indian skipper Virat Kohli considering the 33-year-old’s poor form with the bat so far. Karthik has shown his support to Kohli to make a stronger come back saying that one can never rule out a player with the abilities of the right-hand batter.
Kohli, on the other hand, has been struggling to score runs for a long time now. His last ton came against Bangladesh in a pink-ball Test back in November 2019, at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Furthermore, in India’s most recent outing against England, Kohli again botched to score runs. However, he received backing from the Indian captain Rohit Sharma and now Karthik too has come forward to do the same.
Karthik has asserted that Kohli has weathered an enormous amount of success over time. Karthik also feels that Kohli will get a good break and come back stronger as the former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain is set to miss the India tour of the West Indies, which is to commence on July 22.
In an exclusive chat with TOI, Dinesh Karthik said, “Virat has experienced insane success over the period of time. Now he will get a good break and will come back all recharged and hopefully, will do phenomenally well. You can never rule out a player of his calibre.”
“I have worked hard for it” – Dinesh Karthik on India return
Moreover, Dinesh Karthik expressed his views regarding his exceptional return to the Indian T20 International side. The 37-year-old confessed that it was never a susceptible chore and said that he has worked hard for it.
Karthik, Kohli’s RCB teammate said, “It is never easy, but I have worked hard for it. Also, given the bench strength that we have today, the competition is always going to be a part of it. This is the beauty of Indian cricket.”
Further, the Tamil Nadu wicketkeeper went on to reflect on team India’s preparations speculating the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia. Dinesh Karthik said that coach Rahul Dravid and the skipper Sharma have taken everyone along for the quest and there’s a positive environment around the team as they head into the Caribbean challenge.
