Team India all-rounder Deepak Chahar’s fiancee Jaya Bharadwaj penned an emotional note after his valiant knock went in vain during the third ODI against South Africa on Sunday. Chahar’s 34-ball 54 couldn’t help India secure a win as they fell short by four runs.
Chasing 288 runs set by South Africa riding on Quinton de Kock‘s century, India suddenly lost the plot after South Africa inflicted a collapse that reduced them from 116/1 to 156/4 in a space of nine overs.
Deepak Chahar, who came out to bat in the 40th over, unleashed a carnage, racing to 54 which included five fours and two sixes. Just when it looked like Chahar will take India home in the dead rubber, an error of judgment led to his end when he mistimed a Lungi Ngidi slower delivery into the hands of Dwaine Pretorius.
The all-rounder from Rajasthan was seen in distraught after India ended on the losing side. Deepak Chahar’s fiancee Jaya Bharadwaj penned a heartwrenching note on Instagram for the celebrated cricketer. She wrote:
“I have seen you wake up every morning for practice and go for every single game with the same hunger to perform and give your best for your country as I saw yesterday in the game.
Days are hard when you are playing and harder when you are not but the hard-work, dedication, passion and enthusiasm you show on and off field for this game is what truly makes you a champion.”
“A sport as competitive as cricket, sometimes you win the game and sometimes not but your effort has made the whole country proud. You have shown that you are ready to win the toughest of battles for your country and your team… proud of you.. Jai hind,” she added.

Deepak Chahar has played similar innings in the past and has always shown signs of being a genuine all-rounder. India head coach Rahul Dravid has also vouched to give the cricketer more chances in the coming days.
