Zimbabwe Announce Squad For Two-Match Test Series Against Pakistan

Zimbabwe Cricket board has announced its squad for the upcoming two-Test match series against Pakistan starting from April 29. Previously both teams played a three-match T20I series with the Men in Green winning it 2-1 under the leadership of Babar Azam. Luke Jongwe, Richard Ngarava, Roy Kaia, Milton Shumba and Tanaka Chivanga are the five uncapped players named in Zimbabwe’s 16-man squad for the two-match series against Pakistan.

The squad also marks the return of Tendai Chisoro, who last played a Test way back in 2017. Brendan Taylor, who missed Zimbabwe’s last Test series against Afghanistan in the UAE due to health issues, makes a comeback whereas Craig Ervine misses out due to a calf injury. Sikandar Raza continues to recover from a bone marrow infection and wasn’t available for selection.

Four players – Ryan Burl, Wessly Madhevere, Richmond Mutumbami and Brandon Mavuta, who were a part of the series against Afghanistan did not make it to the squad for the series against Afghanistan.

Pakistan defeated the African nation 2-1 in the three-match T20I series leading into the Test series. Babar Azam became the fastest batsman to get to 2000 T20I runs in the series. He is currently the top-ranked ODI batsman and ranked number two in the ICC T20I rankings. 

He became the fastest to score 2000 runs in the T20I format during the 3rd and final T20 international against Sean Williams & Co. He took only 52 innings to set the record. He concluded the ODI series against South Africa as the second-highest scorer with 228 runs, only behind Fakhar Zaman, who bagged 302 runs. Azam has 865 points under his belt in the ODI rankings. Behind him is Virat Kohli with 857 points and Rohit Sharma, 825 points. His promotion excluded New Zealand’s Ross Taylor (801 points) and Australia’s Aron Finch (791) from the top five.
