The Indian Women’s team’s journey in ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 till the final has been a fairytale. The underdogs have come through the ranks to upset some of the big sides and go all the way through the final.
Meanwhile, the men have sent luck to the ladies all the way from Sri Lanka. In a video posted on BCCI’s Twitter account, Ravi Shastri said in his quintessential style, “Go for it Ladies, give it to the Poms!” Virat Kohli added, “On behalf of the entire Indian team and support staff I wish the women’s team all the women’s team best of luck!”
Indian women started their world cup campaign with a crushing against England. They further went on to decimate the West Indies where Smriti Mandhana once again showed her class with the bat. The arch rivals Pakistan were the next to be destroyed at the hands of Indians as India bowled them over for 74.
In the fourth game, India won a close encounter against Sri Lanka. With four wins in 4 games, India was looking invincible at this point of time. Just as when things were going perfect India suddenly lost 2 back to back games against South Africa and Australia and found themselves in a do or die situation against the Kiwis, eventually steamrolling them and making it to the semis easily.
In the semi-final, Harmanpreet Kaur produced one of the most sensational innings in knockouts by an Indian taking India through. It comes down to the all important day at Lord’s on 23rd July. Will India clinch their maiden world cup title?
