Team India cricketer Dinesh Karthik suffered a back injury against South Africa on Sunday, October 30 at the Perth Stadium in the 2022 T20 World Cup. His injury has put his participation in jeopardy for the Bangladesh match, which will take place on Wednesday, November 2 in Adelaide.

Dinesh Karthik has not been able to make much of an impact in the tournament so far. He has struggled to make runs, managing only seven runs in two innings. The wicket-keeper batter suffered an injury against South Africa and was writing in pain, at the end of the 15th over. Dinesh Karthik had to walk off the field.

“Karthik felt pain in his lower back. We haven’t heard about the severity of his back spasm. The medical team is working to get him fit as heat treatment and massaging help reduce the discomfort, quickly. So don’t rule him out yet,” a senior BCCI official privy to the development told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

Team India suffers first loss of 2022 T20 World Cup

Team India suffered a defeat against South Africa by five wickets on Sunday, October 30 at the Perth Stadium in the 2022 T20 World Cup. This is their first defeat in the tournament, so far. Batting first, India put on 133 runs, on the back of Suryakumar Yadav’s fifty. The right-handed batter slammed 68 runs, with the help of six boundaries and three sixes.

In response, South Africa chased down the target in the final over with five wickets in hand. David Miller stayed unbeaten on 59, while Aiden Markram also scored a fifty. Lungi Ngidi won the Player of the Match award, for his spectacular bowling performance. He took four wickets, in as many overs, conceding twenty-nine runs at an economy rate of 7.2. Wayne Parnell also performed well with the ball, taking three wickets in his spell at an economy rate of 3.80.
