Cricket’s growth as a sport is inhibited due to several factors. This hasn’t affected the popularity in the existing nations, however. In these countries, a cricketer is revered as much as any other sports athlete.
They’re very popular so their lifestyles are copied by youngsters. Some cricketers may adopt eccentric fashion wear, while others go for irregular hairstyles. Here we take a look at the latter.
5 players who have had the most unique hairstyles:
1) Ben Stokes
The talismanic player Ben Stokes recently captained England in the ODI series against Pakistan. He did so during an emergency crisis when a couple of positive covid-19 cases forced the original England squad into isolation. Stokes is England’s go-to man in tough situations.
The English player has had different hairstyles over the years. He has kept it short, kept it pretty lengthy, and the weirdest of those is the one he is sporting currently. Along with him, England cricketers Jason Roy, Sam Curran, and Liam Livingstone have gotten the same hairstyles. It looks a bit sheepish but not when pulled off confidently.
2) Krunal Pandya
Mumbai Indians all-rounder Krunal Pandya didn’t have the best of IPL’s this season. He failed in most of the games before the suspension of the cash-rich league. Although he scored a fifty on his ODI debut for India, his appearances on the side are sporadic.
The elder Pandya brother has a new hairstyle that he adopted during the ongoing series against Sri Lanka. Although, it’s the least weird one on this list, it’s still something that’s considered irregular and rather unique.
3) Andre Russell
Russell is an entertainer on the field. He is capable of turning a game on its head in a matter of a few deliveries. Royal Challengers Bangalore have been on the receiving end multiple times in the IPL. Alongside Chris Gayle and Kieron Pollard, he forms a dangerous batting order for the West Indies.
Russell is a fashion icon in his own right. Plenty of times, fans have observed him wearing opposite-colored shoes on the field. If there’s one person on the cricket field who can pull off a Mohawk, it’s Russell. The big West Indian did so during the 2015 ODI World Cup in Australia & New Zealand. With a sleeky beard, the not-so-regular hairstyle looked amazing on Russell.
4) Colin de Grandhomme
Colin most recently participated in the World Test Championship (WTC) final. He has improved his skills as an all-rounder and is mostly used by New Zealand as a pinch-hitter in the white-ball formats. He is extremely under-rated for the amount of value he brings to a team.
The Kiwi all-rounder turned heads when he was spotted rocking a Mullet during the covid-era. It’s a hairstyle that was in fashion during the ’70s and ’80s. However, Colin de Grandhomme decided to bring it back and did so rather spectacularly. Fans are still divided on whether it looks good but the cricketer continues to sport it with some grandeur.
5) Hardik Pandya
Unlike his brother, Hardik’s spot in the side is a bit more settled. He has battled injuries, however, which is the main cause of concern for the Baroda cricketer. Although he has been focusing on his batting for a while now, Hardik is still a force to reckon with for his bowling skills.
Hardik Pandya is a little more eccentric when it comes to fashion. He is extremely flashy and boasts of plenty of designer clothes. They range from nightwear like pajamas to outdoor clothes. Prior to departure for the Sri Lankan tour, Hardik got himself a new hairstyle which is pretty much a buzzcut styled with a heartbeat on the side.
