Team India openers Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal registered an unwanted record on Tuesday, December 12 during the second T20I against South Africa at St George’s Park, Gqeberha. They were dismissed without troubling the scorers as they failed to score a run in the game.

India was asked to bat first by South African skipper Aiden Markram. Yashasvi Jaiswal opened the innings along with Shubman Gill, while Marcon Jansen kicked off the proceedings for South Africa. However, the duo failed to make any impact. Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed by Marco Jansen on the third delivery of the first over.

The pacer bowled a short delivery outside off stump. Jaiswal tried to cut the ball, however, he couldn’t keep the ball. David Miller who was at backward point, took a brilliant catch to his left. Shubman Gill soon followed his opening partner to the pavilion. He looked to work a short of a length delivery from Lizaad Williams, but was caught lbw in front of the stumps.

Yashsavi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill became the second Indian opening pair to bag ducks in T20Is. Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane were the first to achieve the unwanted record in 2016 against Pakistan in Mirpur.
