A dramatic turn of events marked Day 4 of the second Test between India and England when confusion arose over a DRS call. England’s Tom Hartley’s reverse-sweep shot led to a slip catch by India’s skipper Rohit Sharma, prompting the on-field umpire to raise his finger. Hartley immediately reviewed, revealing the ball had hit his forearm, leading to a reversal of the on-field decision.

Adding to the complexity, the third umpire assessed LBW despite no leg-before appeal, showing the umpire’s call for LBW, but Hartley remained not out. Amidst the perplexity, Rohit questioned the umpire on why Hartley was not out despite the initial out decision for the slip catch. The umpire clarified that the decision pertained to the catch, not LBW.

Shortly after this incident, India secured a breakthrough as Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Ben Foakes and Tom Hartley. Mukesh Kumar later claimed his first wicket, dismissing debutant Shoaib Bashir. Bumrah, once again, played a pivotal role, taking the final wicket of Tom Hartley, who fought hard for his 36 off 47 balls. This victory helped India level the 5-match series 1-1.

Despite England’s ‘Bazball’ approach falling short, with Ben Stokes’ team coming close to an unexpected win, the series concluded with an intense and eventful encounter on Day 4.

India secured its third victory in the WTC 2023-25 cycle by defeating England in the second Test in Visakhapatnam, levelling the series at 1-1. The anticipated result materialized within two sessions on Day 4. Despite England’s resilient effort until the final delivery, Tom Hartley and Ben Foakes attempted a last-ditch comeback. However, Jasprit Bumrah’s outstanding performance sealed the win for India.
