Cricket fans are eagerly waiting for ICC’s final decision regarding the T20 World Cup in Australia later this year. Several reports suggest that the chances of the global event happening in October looks bleak. Meanwhile, former chairman of selectors MSK Prasad thinks that if T20 World Cup takes place MS Dhoni should be part of the training camp.
The former selector stated that Dhoni should be part of the team India’s training camp considering its an ICC event. Notably, Prasad during the end of his tenure earlier this year, mentioned that they have moved on from MS Dhoni.
Dhoni should be a part of T20 World Cup – MSK Prasad
The former India skipper last played a competitive game in the semi-finals of the World Cup last year in July. The wicket-keeper-batsman had started training and batting in nets in advance for the upcoming IPL. However due to the deadly coronavirus the future of IPL this year is still unsure.
“I don’t know whether the T20 World Cup is happening or not. If it is happening and you are just looking at the camp as a pre-cursor to the tournament, then MS should definitely be there. If it’s a case of bilateral, then you already have KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson,” Prasad said as quoted by India Today.
Meanwhile, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant are front runners to play as the wicket-keeper-batsman for India if the T20 world cup takes place. Rahul has been in brilliant form from the past one year whereas playing Pant due to his dynamic game will be a big temptation.
However, MSK Prasad still believes that MS Dhoni has something to offer to the Indian team in T20 cricket. He added that if he was still the selector he would have picked Dhoni in the side if he wanted to play. MSK Prasad was replaced by Sunil Joshi as the chief selector only a couple of months back.
“If I was a national selector, MS Dhoni will be in my team but the bigger question is that whether he wants to play or not. It’s what Dhoni wants at the end of the day”, MSK Prasad concluded.
