Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) opener Abhishek Sharma expressed his gratitude to India’s T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, after his match-winning century against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on April 12. The 24-year-old had been out of form in SRH’s first five matches, managing only 51 runs at an average of 10.20.
His poor run of form contributed to SRH’s four consecutive losses, following an initial victory against Rajasthan Royals (RR). However, Abhishek finally found his rhythm with a stunning 141 off 55 balls, featuring 14 boundaries and 10 sixes. His knock became the third-highest score in IPL history and the highest by an Indian player.
This explosive innings enabled SRH to chase down an improbable target of 246 in just 18.3 overs. In a post-match interview with the broadcasters, Abhishek expressed his gratitude to former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh and current T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav for helping him bounce back from his recent poor form.
“This one is very special and I was thinking that I wanted to break the losing streak, it was very tough as a player and as a youngster, but the mood in the team was very good. Special mention to Yuvi (paaji), I have been talking to him and also thanks to Suryakumar Yadav as well. I have been in touch with him and he has been there for me,” he said (via Cricbuzz).

Abhishek Sharma commended SRH captain Pat Cummins and the whole team for maintaining a positive atmosphere despite their recent losing streak. After a stellar 2024 season, SRH were strong contenders for the IPL 2025 title. However, heading into the PBKS match, they were struggling at the bottom of the table with just one win from five games.
“It’s not easy for any player to go through that form. Special mention to the team and captain, very simple message to the batters although I was not doing well. Had a talk with Travis and it was a special day for both of us,” said Abhishek (Via Cricbuzz).
