Delhi Capitals’ (DC) wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul exchanged a handshake with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner Sanjiv Goenka before briskly walking off at the conclusion of their IPL 2025 encounter at Ekana Stadium on Tuesday. KL Rahul captained the Lucknow-based franchise for three seasons, but was not retained after the 2024 campaign.

Rahul and Goenka are believed to have fallen out following a disagreement in 2024. After LSG’s 10-wicket defeat to SunRisers Hyderabad last season, the two were involved in a heated on-field discussion.

They went their separate ways before the IPL 2025 auction, and Delhi Capitals snapped up Rahul for ₹14 crore. The Karnataka-born batter was reportedly offered the captain’s armband by his new franchise but chose to decline it.

KL Rahul brought up his third half-century of the season, remaining unbeaten on 57 off 42 balls with three fours and three sixes to guide Delhi Capitals to an eight-wicket win. Chasing a tricky target of 160, the 33-year-old walked in during the fourth over after Karun Nair fell for 15 and stitched a 69-run stand off 49 balls with Abhishek Porel (51).

Following Porel’s dismissal, Rahul and Axar Patel (34*) put together an unbeaten 56-run partnership as the Capitals sealed the win with eight wickets in hand and 13 balls remaining. Earlier, DC skipper Axar Patel won the toss and opted to field first. Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram gave LSG a solid start, adding 87 runs in the first 10 overs.

Ayush Badoni contributed a quick 36 off 21 balls, but the middle order failed to build on the momentum. Rishabh Pant fell for a duck once again, and the LSG captain now faces increasing pressure over his form.
