Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) released an official statement expressing deep sorrow over the stampede-like situation outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium, which tragically claimed the lives of 11 fans. The franchise emphasized that the safety and well-being of supporters remain a top priority.

In response to the incident, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) announced a compensation of ₹5 lakh for the families of the deceased. The unfortunate event unfolded shortly after RCB made history by securing their maiden IPL title on Tuesday, which had sent fan excitement soaring across Bengaluru.

RCB held a victory parade and felicitation at Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday. Huge crowds gathered, and in the chaos, some fans tried climbing boundary walls, resulting in injuries and several tragic deaths. In their official statement, RCB stated:

“We are deeply anguished by the unfortunate incidents that have come to light through media reports regarding public gatherings all over Bengaluru in anticipation of the team’s arrival this afternoon. The safety and well-being of everyone is of utmost importance to us.”

“RCB mourns the tragic loss of lives and extend our heartfelt condolences to the affected families. Immediately upon being made aware of the situation, we promptly amended our program, and followed, the guidance and advice of the local administration. We urge all our supporters to please stay safe.”

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia criticized the organisers for inadequate event planning and extended his wishes for a swift recovery to those who were injured.

Rajeev Shukla Calls for Joint Damage Control After Bengaluru Stampede

Following the tragic stampede outside Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium that claimed at least 11 lives during RCB’s IPL victory celebrations, BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla called for joint efforts to manage the aftermath and understand what went wrong.

He noted that while the planned roadshow was cancelled to prevent overcrowding, the crowd surge at the stadium gates was unforeseen.
