
At least 11 people lost their lives and many others were reportedly injured in a stampede at Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) home ground in Bengaluru on Wednesday, June 4, prompting responses from prominent Indian cricketers. The tragic incident happened as large crowds gathered outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium to join the celebrations following RCB’s first-ever IPL title win.
In a video shared by ANI, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah confirmed the number of fatalities and offered his condolences to the grieving families, stating:
“11 died and 33 injured in the stampede. The pain of this tragedy has even erased the joy of victory,” he added.

As reported by PTI, a large number of fans gathered at the sports venue, causing the stampede. Police struggled to control the crowd as many attempted to enter the stadium simultaneously. A traffic advisory had restricted entry to only those holding valid tickets and passes.
Indian Cricketers Mourn Tragedy During RCB’s IPL 2025
Following the tragic event, several Indian cricketers expressed their condolences on X, mourning the incident after an unforgettable night when RCB defeated Punjab Kings (PBKS) by six runs in the final. Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh tweeted:
“Heartbreaking news of a stampede outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, resulting in the tragic loss of lives and injuries to several cricket fans has cast a dark shadow over the spirit of the game that unites millions across our nation.”
“My deepest condolences go out to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives in this unfortunate event. I stand in solidarity with them during this incredibly difficult time and pray for the speedy recovery of those who have been injured.”
Former India captain Anil Kumble said:
“It’s a Sad day for Cricket! My heart goes out to the families of those who lost their lives while celebrating RCB’s victory today. Praying for the speedy recovery of those injured. Tragic !!”
