Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has copped a lot of criticisms for his below-par outings in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). His paltry run is a testimony of Punjab’s poor campaign where they have only managed to win one out of seven games.
Meanwhile, Maxwell landed in the UAE on the back of match-winning performances during Australia’s limited-overs series against England. He helped his side secure win with blistering knocks. However, Glenn Maxwell is far from his best in the ongoing IPL.
I don’t have a proper role in IPL – Glenn Maxwell
In his last outing, the experienced all-rounder failed to take his side over the rope while chasing 14 runs in the last over off Sunil Narine. Responding to the criticisms, Glenn Maxwell said that he doesn’t clear role in the Kings XI Punjab side where his batting position keeps on changing.
On the contrary, Maxwell stated he knows his job while playing for Australia and exactly knows how his teammates will bat around him.
“I probably would not (compare IPL and Australia career). The way I have played international cricket, it has been more of a clearer role. I know exactly how the guys will bat around me.

“My role in IPL changes probably for most games. In IPL, a lot of teams change their sides a lot. In the Australian set-up we have the same eleven for most of the games, we all know our roles really well,” Maxwell said while talking to PTI.
So far, Glenn Maxwell has managed to score 58 runs from seven matches at an average of 14.5 with a strike rate of below 100. His poor return might just see him warm the bench in the rest of the season with Chris Gayle likely to make a comeback in the playing XI.
He was admitted in the hospital after suffering food poisoning and has recovered to be available for Punjab’s next game. KL Rahul & Co next face Royal Challengers Bangalore on October 15.
