The new vice-captain of One-day international team Rohit Sharma was dismissed in an unfortunate manner as he was run out at the Rangri International Stadium, Dambulla. This incident took place during the last ball of the 5th over. Rohit Sharma tried to steal a single of Lasith Malinga. The ball went to Kapugedra and hit the stump as Sharma has reached the crease but the bat was stuck and the foot was in the air. It was an unlucky dismissal for Sharma who was playing his first match of the series.
Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan had put on 23 runs in 4.5 overs. The hard hitting batsman was dismissed for 4 runs. He played 13 balls for his 4. Sri Lanka got the early breakthrough via an excellent run-out. Earlier Sri Lanka was dismissed for 216 in 43.2 overs after being in a strong position of 139 for 1 in in the 25th over.
Shikhar Dhawan played with positive intent and not allowed the Sri Lankan bowlers to settle. The crowd was happy as Rohit Sharma was dismissed. The Sri Lankan fielders appealed and the umpire went it to the third umpire, he saw many angles before giving it out. Indian team continues to dominate the Sri Lankan team in the first ODI match too. Rohit Sharma did not get a chance in the test series. With 4 more ODI matches left in the series, Sharma would look to score big and get confidence with Rahane as the third opener.
