After prior reports that Rahul Dravid will be a member of the support staff when Indian team tour Sri Lanka, latest reports say that he is now seriously contemplating BCCI’s offer to coach the Indian team in the series. The BCCI announced former Indian batsman Paras Mhambrey as the coach of the side. However now Rahul Dravid is back with the possibility of coaching the Indian team against Sri Lanka.

The Indian team in Sri Lanka will have a different look to it with all their senior players missing. The likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami will be playing in the WTC Final in the UK. After that, they will stay back for a five-match Test series.

Meanwhile, reports say that Shikhar Dhawan might lead the Indian ODI and T20I squads against Sri Lanka. The squad will have players who recently played in the IPL before it was cancelled. The likes of Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav amongst others might get a place in the squad.

Rahul Dravid Pondering Over Coaching Role In Sri Lanka

Meanwhile, Rahul Dravid has been coaching the Indian A side for a long time. He India A and U-19 coach in 2015. He was reappointed in 2017. Under Dravid, India made it to the final of the 2016 U-19 World Cup, where they lost to the West Indies. In 2018, the Prithvi Shaw-led side clinched the title.

Dravid has groomed several youngsters like Pritvi Shaw, Shubman Gill, Shivam Mavi, Kamlesh Nagarkoti amongst others.

The report in TOI adds that Paras Mhambrey and Abhay Sharma could join him on the tour. Mhambrey has also worked with India A and U-19 sides. He was the head coach of the U-19 team which made it to the final of the 2020 U-19 WC. Abhay is a former India fielding coach, who will tour England with the women’s side next month.
