India’s leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal celebrates his 31st birthday today, July 23. Before making his India debut, Chahal was already a star in the Indian Premier League. He first shot to fame, when he took 34 wickets and was the leading wicket-taker in the Under-19 Cooch Behar Trophy 2009. Since then, Yuzvendra Chahal’s name has been making the rounds in Indian cricket.
Chahal has achieved the bulk of his success playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He has played 106 IPL matches, bagging 125 wickets at an average of 23.30, and is among the Top 10 wicket-takers of all time. The leggie made his India debut in 2016 against Zimbabwe under the leadership of MS Dhoni.
In his initial days in International cricket, Chahal has made the batsmen dance to his tunes. He has represented India in 56 ODI matches picking 97 wickets at an average of 26.93. Chahal also has an outstanding T20I record, he is the leading wicket-taker for India in T20Is with 62 wickets in 48 matches at an average of 25.40.
Despite finding early success playing for India, Yuzvendra Chahal has struggled over the last year or so to cement his place in the Indian limited-overs squad. He made a fine comeback in the team against Sri Lanka playing in the ongoing ODI series. With the T20 World Cup in sight, Yuzvendra Chahal will be keen to book a place in the World Cup squad.
Dhanashree Verma, Yuzvendra Chahal’s wife shared a heartwarming post on the occasion of her husband’s birthday. The couple got married on 22 December 2020 in Gurgaon in a private ceremony.
