India defeated England by 151 runs in the second test match at the Lord’s Cricket Ground on Monday. Former India cricketer VVS Laxman has expressed that the Indian team will treasure this victory for their lifetime.
India lost an early wicket on day five as Rishabh Pant was caught behind for 22 runs exposing India’s vulnerable tail. However, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami surprised everyone as they took on the English bowlers. They helped India set a 271 runs target for England in the fourth innings. In reply, the hosts collapsed for 120 runs.

Speaking to the ESPNCricinfo, post-match, VVS Laxman lauded the Indian team’s victory. He said, “I think they (Indian team) will never ever forget this win. They will treasure this win for their lifetime, keeping in mind the situation the team was in at the start of the fifth day, overly depending on Rishabh Pant and the tail to follow.
“And I just felt the energy and the enthusiasm you saw in each and every over was amazing. It was infectious. The captain led the way. The intensity is always there when Virat Kohli is on the field captaining,” Laxman added.

Bumrah and Shami were attacked with short pitch deliveries but they showed character: VVS Laxman
The former India cricketer also lauded Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami for standing firm at the crease despite the barrage of short pitch deliveries bowled at them. Bumrah and Shami put on 89 runs for the ninth wicket stand, the highest at the Lord’s cricket ground for India.
“You know because of the fantastic display of character from two tailenders Jasprit Bumrah and Shami. The English bowlers tried to attack them with a lot of short pitch deliveries and a lot of verbal duel going on, but they showed the character, they stood firm. I thought it was a complete team effort. And the English team will just repent at some of the tactical blunders they made while bowling to Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami,” VVS Laxman concluded.
