South African batsman Aiden Markram has lit a couple of eyes with his whirlwind batting in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. Successfully exposing himself to the highest standard of the popular sport, Markram ended up hitting a purple patch for the Proteas in the Super 12 phase of the tournament.
Incidentally, Aiden Markram onslaughts against West Indies even unearthed an old tweet of Indian skipper Virat Kohli about the Proteas batter. A couple of years ago, Kohli had opted to give a shoutout to Markram for taking the batting charge of the South African side.
Praising Aiden Markram on Twitter, Virat Kohli wrote:
“Aiden Markram is a delight to watch!”

Aiden Markram supported in-form Rassie van der Dussen as the batting duo laid the foundation of a match-winning total against the Morgan-led side. While Van der Dussen smashed an unbeaten 94, middle-order batter Markram slammed a quick-fire 52 off 25 balls to help South Africa post 189-2 in 20 overs.
England looked well set to take the game in the run chase with Liam Livingstone and Dawid Malan unleashing a carnage before Kagiso Rabada came back swiftly to pick a hat-trick and secure a 10-run win for his side.
However, the Proteas failed to secure their berth for the semi-final stage. England and Australia emerged as the Group 1 winners by taking the top two spots. England bagged the top spot while Aaron Finch’s Australia outclassed South Africa on net run-rate to secure the second spot in Group 1.
