Former India head coach Ravi Shastri feels that Virat Kohli must take a 2-3 months break from the game and return fresh. The last couple of months have been extremely tiresome with how the captaincy saga unfolded in Indian cricket.
Kohli, who relinquished his leadership duties in the shortest format after the T20 World Cup was sacked from the one-dayers ahead of the ODI series against South Africa. The 33-year-old then stepped down from the Tests after a humiliating 1-2 defeat against the Proteas.
Ever since there has been a lot of speculations on Virat Kohli’s career. Ravi Shastri suggested that Kohli needs to calm down, start focusing on his willow-wielding skills and take every game as it comes. Speaking on Shoaib Akhtar‘s YouTube channel, the former India head coach said:
“He realizes he is 33, he realizes he has five years of good cricket ahead of him. If he can calm down, focus on his batting, take one game at a time, probably take a break from the game as well. I think if he sits out for two or three months or takes a break for a series, it would do him a world of good.”
Virat Kohli should play those three-four years as king – Ravi Shastri
The 59-year-old, who shares a great camaraderie with Virat, said that the latter should come back and dominate the next three-four years as a king.
“To come back and play those three-four years as king, absolute king. You know where he is clear mentally, knows exactly what his job and role are, and then plays as a team player, that’s where I want to see Virat Kohli now. To come, contribute big time as a team player and help the team win,” he added.
Virat Kohli will be next seen in action during the limited-overs series against West Indies, starting February 6.
