Opening batter Shikhar Dhawan has not been in the scheme of things for India in the T20I format for a long time. He last played a T20I against Sri Lanka in 2021, where he was leading the Indian team. However, since then, the Indian management has dropped Shikhar Dhawan from the plans in the shortest format. The left-handed batter has expressed that he doesn’t know why he is not picked for the T20Is.

Shikhar Dhawan will be leading the Indian team in the upcoming ODI series against Zimbabwe. Ahead of the tour, the opening batter spoke to the Indian Express about his absence from the T20I squad. He expressed that he does not want to think about it and looks to make the most of any opportunity that he gets. Dhawan said,

“I honestly don’t know about it, maybe it could be the reason. Don’t want to go deep about it I have not played T20 for India for a long time now, I don’t know where I see myself. I look to make the most out of every opportunity I am getting. Be it IPL, domestic cricket, or ODI, I just want to do well, and that is the only thing under my control.”

It’s an art and still has charm: Shikhar Dhawan on playing ODI cricket

In 2022, he has scored 388 in 10 matches, at an average of 43.11 and strike rate of 76.37, including four half-centuries. The Indian cricketer was asked about his batting exploits in ODI cricket and his thoughts on the future of the format.

“I really enjoy playing ODI cricket. It’s an art and still has charm. I love playing it. Like Test and T20 have their values, ODI cricket is also exciting. I really like it,” said Shikhar Dhawan.

Overall, Shikhar Dhawan has scored 6493 runs in 155 ODI matches, at an average of 45.40, and a strike rate of 92.53, including 17 centuries and 37 half-centuries.
