Mumbai Indians (MI) have always been a force to reckon with in the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, the 2024 season was a nightmare for the five-time champions as they finished at the bottom of the table. Now, with Rohit Sharma’s unwavering determination, MI fans are hoping for a strong comeback in 2025.

Mumbai Indians’ Struggles in IPL 2024

The IPL 2024 season was one of MI’s worst in history. With only four wins out of 14 matches, the team failed to perform at its usual high standards. Several factors contributed to their downfall, including inconsistent batting, lackluster bowling, and strategic misfires.

Rohit Sharma’s Exclusive Interview with MI TV

In an exclusive interview with MI TV, Rohit Sharma acknowledged the team’s struggles in 2024. He admitted that MI did not play their best cricket and that the season was a low point for the franchise. After a disappointing IPL, Rohit had to quickly shift his focus to the upcoming T20 World Cup. He knew this would be his final appearance in the tournament and was determined to make it count.

Rohit said, “It was a low for the team, and I thought we didn’t play our best cricket. And there were so many things to look forward to after the IPL. I knew a World Cup was coming up, and then I had to shift my focus to the World Cup, knowing that this would be my last T20 World Cup. So I wanted to make it count.”

Unwavering Mindset Despite Changes

Rohit Sharma has been an integral part of MI for over 15 years. From his early days as a middle-order batsman to becoming one of the best openers in the game, his journey has been remarkable. Rohit acknowledged that while players and roles have changed, his mindset remains the same. His goal is clear: win games and bring home more trophies for MI.

“So, obviously, from since the time I started to now, things, a lot of things have changed, obviously, because, you know, I used to bat middle order then. Now I’m opening the batting. I was captain then. I’m not the captain now. There were a few teammates who I played with and won championship. They are not there. They are in the coaching role now. So the roles have changed. A lot of things have changed, but the mindset has not changed. What I want to do for this team has not changed, which is to go out there and win games and win trophies. That is what MI is known for. You know, all these years, we’ve gone and won trophies, won games from a situation that no one ever believed. So that is MI and that is what Mumbai is known for,” Rohit was quoted as saying by MI.

Rohit’s Vision for the Team

Despite the setbacks, Rohit remains committed to MI’s success. He believes that the team has the potential to bounce back and reclaim its former glory. Mumbai Indians have a history of dramatic comebacks, and Rohit is confident that they can do it again. The team has shown resilience in the past, winning titles even after slow starts in previous seasons. One of MI’s biggest strengths is its team culture. The franchise has built a family-like atmosphere, which plays a crucial role in maintaining team morale. Rohit fondly recalled the consistency in MI’s traditions, such as the way players are welcomed and how team rooms are set up with personalized elements.

Rohit added, “You know that when you reach your room, the day you report to your room, everything will be laid out as it was laid out in 2011. Your kid bag, your suitcase with all the jerseys, you know, and all the other necessary things. So those things have not changed in the last 15 years that I’ve been here. And I don’t think it will ever change and that it should never change. You know, when you arrive, they are always there to greet you with that big smile. That has never changed and that is very constant. So all those things are there. The way that team room has been shaped, you know, with putting everyone’s name, their jersey number and, you know, those important phrases as well in the team room, that has never changed.”
