The Gujarat Titans (GT) are set to face the Mumbai Indians (MI) in an IPL 2025 match at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on Saturday, May 29. Ahead of the clash, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill were spotted having a discussion near the practice nets.

Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill have started their IPL 2025 campaigns differently. Rohit got out for a four-ball duck against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), while Gill played a quick knock of 33 runs from 14 balls during Gujarat Titans’ chase of 244 against Punjab Kings (PBKS).

GT and MI aim for their first win in IPL 2025

GT and MI both faced defeats in their opening matches of IPL 2025. Gujarat Titans fell short by 11 runs against PBKS in Ahmedabad while chasing a target of 244. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians suffered a four-wicket loss to CSK in Chennai after setting a total of 155. This marked the 13th consecutive season where MI lost their opening game in the IPL.

A key positive for MI in their loss to CSK was left-arm wrist-spinner Vignesh Puthur, who took 3 for 32. Head coach Mahela Jayawardene said sending Puthur to train with MI Cape Town in SA20 2025 was to give him exposure, adding that he appeared calm and focused.

“I wasn’t there [at the SA20]. Yes, I was part of the thought process, but I wasn’t there. It was just to get him out and expose him to cricket because we felt that there is talent and because he hasn’t played much cricket prior, give him that exposure working with some players.”

The GT vs MI match will mark Hardik Pandya’s season debut after missing the opening game on Sunday, March 23, due to an over-rate penalty from IPL 2024.
