The Royal Challengers Bangalore started their IPL 2020 campaign in style. The Virat Kohli led RCB defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad at Dubai. Put in to bat first, RCB courtesy of debutant Devdutt Padikkal got off to a flying start.
The 19-year-old scored a significant half-century in his first IPL match. Later on in the inning, it was all about ‘Mr.360’ Ab de Villiers. The legendary batsman turned back the clock and played as a magical knock.
Ab de Villiers Surprised After His match-winning knock
On a tricky pitch, de Villiers batted smartly as he took his time and accelerated in the death overs. The 36-year-old ultimately scored a match-winning 51 off just 30 balls. The batting performance of de Villiers even surprised himself and he was pleased to help his side win their opening encounter.
“Big surprise for me. Very happy. We worked very hard for that win. For a change, we’re on the right side of the result in the opening match. Hopefully, it’s a good sign of things to come. I surprised myself, to be honest”, AB de Villiers said.
Meanwhile, de Villiers featured in inaugural South Africa’s 3T Cricket in July. Post his decisive inning de Villiers admitted that playing competitive cricket before the IPL gave him confidence before the big IPL season.
“As a 36-year-old, you doubt yourself. We had a competitive match in South Africa, which was very important. Had some confidence before coming here. We worked hard over the last four weeks, as a team and individually to get some form”, de Villiers said after the win against SRH.
Meanwhile, RCB will now face the Kings XI Punjab on 24 September at Dubai International Stadium. Kohli’s men will be keen to carry their winning momentum in their second match of IPL 2020. On the other hand, KXIP will be looking to register their first win after losing their opening match against Delhi Capitals.
