Team India is blessed to boast the presence of Jasprit Bumrah in their line-up across the formats. Idolising Lasith Malinga with whom he shares the Mumbai Indians dressing room, Bumrah has reached heights very quickly. Recently, former Sri Lanka skipper Angelo Mathews revealed his pick between Bumrah and Malinga.
Bumrah made his first impression in the IPL playing for Mumbai in 2013. However, a splendid run in the 2015-16 domestic circuit earned him a spot in the national team. Since then, he has never looked back. Bumrah made his Test debut in 2018 and ever since, has played 14 matches accounting for 68 wickets.
Mathews picks between Malinga and Bumrah
Meanwhile, many are of the opinion that, Lasith Malinga played a significant role in the meteoric rise of Jasprit Bumrah. Both have delivered the goods for their side during the crunch situations of the game with many matches.
Recently, veteran Sri Lanka all-rounder Angelo Mathews was asked to pick his best bowler between Bumrah and Malinga. While Mathews settled for his countryman but conceded that Bumrah is one of the best in the business at present. He was expressing his views during a recent chat Anis Sajan.
“I would still pick Lasith purely because of his experience. But Bumrah is also one of the best death bowlers going around these days,” Mathews said.
Jasprit Bumrah last made his international appearance during India’s tour of New Zealand earlier this year. Virat Kohli & Co started the tour on a high winning the T20Is but fell short in the ODIs and Tests. Since then, Bumrah has been at his house due to the ongoing lockdown owing to COVID-19 outbreak.
He is likely to make a comeback during IPL 2020, which likely to take place in the UAE in September-October.
