Former India pace spearhead Ashish Nehra has had the luck to play under various captain during his career which spanned for almost two decades. However, he played the most under Sourav Ganguly and MS Dhoni and he spoke about both of them.
Ganguly and Dhoni have been the two illustrious skippers in the history of Indian cricket. While the former cricketer from Bengal took Indian cricket the great heights from rock bottom, Dhoni carried on the legacy. He is the only skipper in the history of the game to win three ICC titles – ICC World T20 in 2007, ICC World Cup in 2011, and the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013.

Speaking on Sourav Ganguly, Ashish Nehra labelled him as a player’s captain. The former pacer expressed that Ganguly will go to any extent to back the players needed to win the game. Further, the cricketer from Delhi said that both of them had different challenges during his stint as India skipper.
“Ganguly had the challenge of creating a new team while Dhoni had a great coach like Gary Kirsten and he had a team that was ready. His challenge was to lead so many senior players,” Ashish Nehra said to Aakash Chopra’s show Aakashvani.
“The good thing about Dada (Ganguly) was that he would mark the players he knew he had to back and he would go to the extent of fighting with the selectors and speaking to the president to back them,” he added.
