Team India got off to a losing start in the 1st ODI in Sydney. The Men in Yellow beat the Men in Blue by 66 runs as they took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. The second ODI will be played at the same venue in two days on November 29. Meanwhile, this was the very first game for India in the post-pandemic era of cricket. Sydney hosted the first ODI between India and Australia. Australia won the toss and opted to bat first, It was a batting masterclass from the Aussie batters with the opener starting the proceedings. Aaron Finch (114) and David Warner (69) added a 156-run stand for the first wicket to set the platform for a big score. Steve Smith then scored the fourth fastest hundred for Australis as he scored 105 off just 66 balls. Glenn Maxwell then played a cameo scoring 45 off just 19 balls to take Australia to 374/6.

It was a tough day at the office for the Indian bowler as all of them went for runs. Yuzvendra Chahal bowled the most expensive spell off his ODI career giving away 89 runs from his spell. Navdeep Saini went for 83 off his 10 overs. Jasprit Bumrah too had an off day as he went for 73. though he picked up three wickets. Ravindra Jadeja went for 63 off his 10 overs.

Australia vs India 1st ODI: India Lose by 66 Runs

India had to chase their highest ODI score ever to win the game. 375 was always a daunting task with the team losing five wickets inside 15 overs. Among the five wickets also included Indian skipper Virat Kohli who was dismissed after scoring a quickfire 21. Shikhar Dhawan (74) and Hardik Pandya (90) added a 128 run stand in the middle overs to give India a chance. Once the partnership was broken in the 35th over, the hopes of an Indian win also diminished.

At last, India were reached 308 in their 50 overs losing the game by 66 runs. Adam Zampa picked four for 53 after Josh Hazlewood provided Australia the early breakthroughs taking three for 55. Zampa regathered himself in the spell after he dropped Virat Kohli during his innings.

Steve Smith for his quickfire ton was awarded the Man of the Match. “Have been searching for something for a couple of months now. About three days ago something just clicked. My rhythm came back, everything came back. Finchy and Davey played very well early on. We could come in and be aggressive. Wasn’t thinking too much out there, just seeing the ball and hitting it. Was seeing the ball well. It was a good surface” said Smith after his matchwinning ton for his side.
