Team India fast bowler Shardul Thakur grabbed the headlines when he became the first contracted Indian player to train outdoors. Incidentally, the decision came after the government in its fourth phase of lockdown allowed players to train individually in sports complexes after taking required permissions and following strict guidelines. However, BCCI seemed displeased with Shardul Thakur.

Meanwhile, the cricketers are completely in house arrest since the Central Government implemented a countrywide lockdown. The decision came to curb the spread of the deadly virus. BCCI also had to cancel their three-match ODI series against South Africa owing to the virus.

The apex body seemed completely miffed with the actions of the Mumbai-based cricketer. Speaking to IANS, a BCCI official stated that the fast bowler should have asked for a NOC from the board before resuming training as he has a contract with BCCI. Notably, the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Shreyas Iyer is also in Mumbai; however, they are yet to resume training.

“He isn’t allowed as he is contracted. Sadly, he went on his own. Shouldn’t have done this, not a smart move,” the official rued.

Meanwhile, Shardul Thakur is currently under Grade C of BCCI’s contract. As per reports, Shardul had at the Palghar Dahanu Taluka District Sports Association Ground. However, going by BCCI, although he trained in a non-red zone, it wasn’t a smart move from the pacer. It also comes as a shock when BCCI is trying everything to keep their cricketers safe.

The 28-year-old has represented India in one Tests, 11 ODIs, and 15 T20Is picking 33 wickets. He had a forgettable Test debut as he could bowl only one over before a groin injury ruled him out of the game.
