The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly planning to organize a day-night Test match between India and Sri Lanka. The men in blues have a tight schedule in place in the ongoing year.

They are scheduled to play three ODIs followed by three T20Is against West Indies, starting February 6. Soon after, Sri Lanka will tour India for two Tests and three T20Is. Bengaluru is scheduled to host the first Test while the second tie will take place in Mohali.

As per reports, the Sourav Ganguly-chaired BCCI is keen to organise a pink-ball Test in Bengaluru. So far, India have played only three day-night encounters against Bangladesh (in Kolkata), Australia (Adelaide) and England (in Ahmedabad).

Sri Lanka has reportedly asked the BCCI to schedule the T20Is first on the tour and the hosts are likely to make changes accordingly. Also, according to a report in the Times of India, Mohali is unlikely to get hosting rights of the day-night Test as there are chances to dew being a crucial factor.

“There is a chance that the first two T20Is to start the tour will be played in Dharamshala before the series moves to Mohali for the third T20I and the first Test. Lucknow may miss out on hosting a T20I. Having the pink ball Test in Mohali is difficult since dew is expected to play a big role,” sources close to the developments said.

He added:

“However, BCCI is still monitoring the Covid-19 situation in the country. A final call to tweak the schedule will be taken soon.”

Sri Lanka will tour Australia for a three-match T20I series before travelling to India.
