Filling the shoes of a cricketer like MS Dhoni is almost impossible. And, it has taken a toll of performance of young wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant feels former India chief selector MSK Prasad. Ever since Pant bursts onto the scene, cricketing pundits and fans have compared him with Dhoni.

A lot of expectations have been put on Pant ever since he made his international debut. While he showed signs but the cricketer from Delhi has had a mixed bag so far. In recent times, Rishabh Pant has been inconsistent and also lost his place to KL Rahul.

Comparisons with Dhoni not helping Pant – MSK Prasad

Speaking of the same, MSK Prasad, who has seen Pant grow, said that all the comparisons with Dhoni are doing no good to Rishabh Pant. He also added that the cricketer is getting lost amid all the euphoria and has to come out of that.

“Every time when Rishabh steps in, he is always compared with MS Dhoni, and probably, he is also getting caught in that euphoria. Many times, we spoke to him that he has to get over it,” Prasad said to Sportskeeda.

“He always was in this shadow of MSD. Pant started comparing himself with him. He started sort of copying him, even in mannerisms and all, if you see the way he does all that sort of stuff,” he stated.

Rishabh Pant took giant strides in international cricket with two Test centuries – England and Australia. However, his returns in limited-overs cricket have been extremely poor. Now that with MS Dhoni gone from international cricket, he will have to work extremely hard to get his spot back from KL Rahul. The Karnataka cricketer has been exceedingly good ever since he took up the glove work.

Pant’s return will begin with the upcoming IPL 2020 starting from September 19. He will turn up for Delhi Capitals, who will start their IPL campaign on September 20 against Kings XI Punjab in Dubai.
