Delhi Capitals (DC) Ricky Ponting head coach has finally spoken about the infamous no-ball controversy in the last over against Rajasthan Royals (RR). Incidentally, in the final over of the game, Delhi needed an improbable 36 from six balls.

Rovman Powell, the tall and hard hitter from the West Indies scored three sixes from the first three balls to put Rajasthan under pressure. On the third ball, which was hit for a six was a full toss. The umpires were happy with the delivery which led to unease in the Delhi Capitals camp since the no-ball could have changed the course of the match.

Meanwhile, Ricky Ponting wasn’t in the Delhi dug-out that day as he was isolating himself in his hotel room after being in close contact with an acquaintance who caught COVID19. He watched the whole match from his hotel room and admitted he broke a few TV remotes during that match.

“It was all wrong, everything about it was wrong. The umpire was wrong but you have got to get on with it. For our players to demonstrate what they did and to have our assistant coach run onto the field, it’s not anything we are happy with or proud of. I have spoken to the guys about that,” Ponting was quoted as saying to Star Sports.

“We have had a pretty tough time at DC over the last few weeks” – Ricky Ponting

Incidentally, former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen has stated that the turn of events that took place after the no-ball wouldn’t have happened in Ponting was in the dugout. Responding to Pietersen, the former Aussie captain said:

“But KP (Kevin Pietersen), we have had a pretty tough time at DC over the last few weeks. We have had Covid cases, we have been locked in the hotel room and, I think, just all the frustration that built up. It was a close game and it all just came out there in that moment.

“That was a lion in the sand moment for us, it was the halfway time of the tournament. We said we would leave all that behind and move to the 2nd half of the tournament with a better attitude,” he added.

Delhi Capitals eventually lost the match by 15 runs and certain sanctions were handed out to Delhi players and coaching staff. This included match fees getting cut and bans as well.
