The Australia Test series could be a ake or break one for both Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara feels former Indian cricketer Deep Dasgupta. With Virat Kohli unavailable for the final three Test matches, Rahane will be leading the side. alongside him, Pujara becomes the two most important batsmen in the line-up. Rahane has 133 runs in 3 Tests while Pujara has managed to score 143 runs in three games this year. both of them failing along with Virat Kohli was a big reason behind India’s batting collapse in Adelaide.
Talking to India Today, Deep Dasgupta said that this could be a make or break series for the two of them especially with the team being in a situation of crisis.
Make Or Break Series For Pujara, Rahane: Deep Dasgupta
“This is a big series for Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara. Especially in these times of crisis I think’s its going to be big. And there are a few comments in the comments section which mentions Ajinkya Rahane not doing anything outstanding,” Deep Dasgupta was quoted as saying by India Today.
“He’s had a few good games in the last 2-3 years, not too many hundreds but I completely agree. It could be a make or break series for someone like Ajinkya Rahane and even, maybe to a certain extent, Cheteshwar Pujara,” he further added.
Cheteshwar Pujara scored 43 and a duck in the two innings of the Adelaide test, while Ajinkya Rahane scored 42 and a duck. India find themselves with their backs to the wall after their loss in the first test. With Kohli missing and the vulnerable top-order, the onus is on the two experienced batsmen to score runs for their team.
The Boxing-Day Test starts from December 26 with the Indian team management looking to have a number of changes in the playing XI. Virat Kohli and Mohammed Shami are already unavailable for the rest of the series.
Cheteshwar Pujara scored 521 runs in India’s Test series win over Australia two years ago. Ajinkya Rahane too played a good hand. He scored 217 runs from four Test matches as India won the series 2-1.
