Dinesh Karthik and Vijay Shankar will play for Tamil Nadu in the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Karthik will be leading the Tamil Nadu in the high profile domestic tournament. Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy this year will mark the return of cricket in India post the COVID-19 era.
The T20 tournament this year will begin from January 10 which will feature several key Indian players. Talking about the Tamil Nadu squad, Vijay Shankar has been named Karthik’s deputy for the tournament. Both Shankar and Karthik will be keen to perform in the competitive T20 tournament so that selectors keep them in the reckoning for the 2021 ICC T20 world cup.

This year Tamil Nadu will be without three big names who are Ravichandran Ashwin, T Natarajan and Washington Sundar as they are currently in Australia with the Indian side. Ashwin is part of the Test squad whereas Natarajan and Sundar have stayed in Australia as net bowlers for the Indian batsmen.
Meanwhile, a 20 man Tamil Nadu squad was announced on Tuesday by the state selection committee headed by former skipper S Vasudevan. The complete squad has been announced keeping in mind the requirements owing to the COVID-19 protocols.
“It is a very balanced team and has a mix of experience and youth. The players are well prepared and I expect the team to do well in the Mushtaq Ali tournament. I am confident that they (team) will perform well”, chairman of Tamil Nadu’s selection panel Vasudevan told PTI.
Furthermore, Tamil Nadu will also be without seasoned campaigner Murali Vijay who decided to opt-out from the tournament due to personal reasons. Medium-pacer K Vignesh is out of the squad too after testing positive for coronavirus and has been replaced by all-rounder R S Jaganath Sinivas.
