The Velocity batter Kiran Navgire has revealed that she is a great admirer of former Indian skipper MS Dhoni. Kiran grabbed the headlines with a powerful knock against the Trailblazers on Thursday at the MCA Stadium in Pune.

Making her debut in the Women’s T20 Challenge, she slammed 69 runs off just 34 balls with a strike rate of 202.94. Her knock included five boundaries and as many sixes. Unfortunately, Velocity fell 16 runs short of the 191 runs target. However, Kiran’s power-hitting ability left the experts and the fans impressed.

In an interaction with the Yastika Bhatia for the IPL website, the Nagaland batter expressed her admiration for MS Dhoni. She added that Dhoni’s 2011 World Cup-winning six inspired her to hit sixes in every match. Kiran said,

“I really feel good when I hit sixes and whenever I practice in the nets. I practice hitting sixes, I follow Dhoni sir and I love finishing like him, hitting big sixes.”

“Watched the 2011 World Cup final and Dhoni sir’s winning sixer is something that impressed me and remained imprinted in my head. That six inspired me and I always feel that in every match, I can hit a six like that,” she added.

My game revolves around my power-hitting ability – Kiran Navgire

The Velocity team skipper Deepti Sharma sent Kiran Navgire at number three after they lost an early wicket. Yastika Bhatia was dismissed in the fourth over for just nineteen runs, chasing 191. The debutant came at the crease and looked at complete ease.

Kiran slammed Salma Khatun for a six over the deep mid-wicket region, to get off the mark in style. She amassed 17 runs in the over, smashing another six and a boundary. Navgire completed her fifty, the fastest in the history of the tournament with a six. Reflecting on her performance, and playing style, she said,

“I don’t like playing dot balls and want to score something off every ball and hence I got a good score.”

“In domestic cricket, I hadn’t batted up the order but I had a good season there and had some good scores. My game revolves around my power-hitting ability. If it’s in my arc, I send it out of the park and if there are good balls, I like to rotate strikes playing singles and doubles,” Navgire added.
