Punjab Kings have been kind of a surprise package this season with the philosophy that they have approached each game with. They go into each and every innings with all guns blazing from the start in the hope of getting the 180-190 mark everytime. Due to this approach, they often lose wickets in quick succession and there are no players in the middle or lower order that can rebuild the innings.
Punjab Kings are yet to find form even though they have the right personnel in the team. Their inconsistent form is the reason why they are in the middle of the standings, but still in contention for the playoffs. They have won four out of their nine games and would look to win all five of their remaining matches to qualify for the playoffs.
Aakash Chopra, former cricketer and now broadcaster has made a comment about the Punjab Kings approach. He said: “They have tried to adopt a philosophy, but they couldn’t put together a team for the same. And hence, their implementation has failed. Neither have they been able to stay totally committed to the philosophy towards the end.”
He further then spoke about the chances of Punjab Kings making it to the playoffs. He said: “For the Punjab Kings, it’s a do or die situation. They need to pounce back like cornered tigers. They should have won the last match. Liam Livingstone hit two sixes off Bishnoi and the game seemed set. However, he got out to Mohsin Khan and the rest is history. They have explosive batters but lack the depth to pull off that aggressive philosophy.”

Punjab Kings next face table toppers Gujarat Titans in a must win game for them. Gujarat Titans have tried to stick with a combination and back their playing XI all the way. This confidence has helped them a lot in their matches. Gujarat have won eight out of nine matches in their debut IPL season so far and are leading the points table.
