In the IPL 2022 mega-auctions, Punjab Kings bought Shikhar Dhawan for Rs 8.25 crore. Dhawan has been one of IPL’s most consistent players.

During the 2020 season, he made history by becoming the first batter in IPL history to smash two back-to-back hundreds. Dhawan is the second-highest run-scorer in the IPL, with 5827 runs in 192 innings. Only RCB’s Virat Kohli is ahead of him.

Meanwhile, Punjab Kings faced Royal Challengers Bangalore in their first match of IPL 2022. RCB posted a huge total of 205-2 batting first. However, Punjab chased down the total with 1 over to spare. Shikhar Dhawan played a crucial knock of 43 runs off 29 balls.

Sri Lankan wicketkeeper Bhanuka Rajapaksa also made a quickfire 43 in just 22 deliveries. But the gamechanger for PBKS was Odean Smith. The Carribean went ballistic against Mohammed Siraj in the 18th over and smashed 4 boundaries. He scored 25 runs off just 8 balls. Punjab Kings will face Kolkata Knight Riders in their next match on April 1.
