Former South Africa cricketer AB De Villiers has predicted a prolific season for Virat Kohli in the Indian Premier League 2022. Kohli looked in good touch in Royal Challengers Bangalore’s opening clash against Punjab Kings.

The former Indian skipper slammed an unbeaten 41 off just 29 balls. His knock included two sixes and a boundary. AB De Villiers expects Virat Kohli to score more than 600 runs in this IPL season. He believes that Virat will play more freely, as there is no captaincy pressure.

Virat Kohli stepped down for the captaincy post of the Royal Challengers Bangalore last year. This season, Faf Du Plessis took over the reigns from the Indian cricketer.

Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers have played together at the Royal Challengers Bangalore since 2011 and developed a great bond. Speaking about his former team-mate, AB De Villiers, said that he expects a big season from Virat Kohli.

“Everyone knows about Faf du Plessis coming in as captain. I think the most exciting thing for me is Virat not being captain and releasing a bit of the pressure, really just going out there and freeing up. I am expecting a very big season from Virat.  Thinking 600+ runs from him this year,” said AB De Villiers.

AB De Villiers further spoke about the new Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Faf Du Plessis. He stated that the South African cricketer will allow the players the freedom to enjoy the IPL. De Villiers also expressed that he expects some players from the team to evolve this season.

The former cricketer said:

“He (Kohli) will be in Faf’s ear, but Faf is also very experienced as well. He has got a good cricketing training on him and he would allow Virat and some of the youngsters to just go and free up, and just enjoy the IPL”

“I don’t know what to expect (from RCB) but I expect some individuals to really rise in this IPL from the RCB setup,” added AB De Villiers.

After losing their opening clash, the Royal Challengers Bangalore will play against the Kolkata Knight Riders on Wednesday at the DY Patil Stadium.
