Former England skipper Nasser Hussain has said that the match timings for the first Test needs to be flexible after rain played spoilsport in the final two sessions of the day’s play. After a full day’s play on day 1, rain played its part in spoiling the contest between bat and ball in the next two days. The teams have already lost 105 overs across the two days and only 16 of them can be recouped by rescheduling the sessions on the final two days.
Meanwhile, the start time for the Test match is 11 am local time and Nasser Hussain wants the match to start half an hour earlier. He said that an early start by 30 minutes can be used to make up for the lost time rather than extending time after the close of play at stumps.

“We can make up time in England for weather late in the day when it’s usually getting darker but we can’t make up time in the morning when it’s usually getting brighter… With rain forecast we should be starting at 10.30 am,” Hussain Tweeted.

Flexible timings were adopted by the ICC in the Test series between Pakistan and England recently. The matches were played at empty stadiums which meant that there was no threat of the fans getting wet due to rain.
Meanwhile, the ICC denied from flexible timings keeping in mind the trouble created by the fans over them reaching the stadiums on time. Also with the extension of timings in the final session play producing minimal benefits wth inclement weather, the ICC might be forced to apply flexible timings keeping in mind that the match should be given enough time to produce a result.

Earlier in the day, Dinesh Karthik tweeted about the weather on day 4. He predicted stop-start progress due to rain playing a part in the due course of the day’s play. Rain as of now has stayed away in the first session of play getting to a close.
