India ended day 3 on 215/2 after bowling out England for 432 inside the first hour. The Indian bowlers wrapped up the tail which then allowed the Indian openers to get their second innings started. KL Rahul departed early yet again. However, Rohit Sharma looked solid from the start and was joined by Cheteshwar Pujara desperately wanting runs.
Both then applied themselves and batted through to lunch. In the process, both played their shots and made the England bowlers bowl to their strength. Even James Anderson strayed down the leg side to give Pujara easy scoring opportunities. Both dominated the opposition bowlers and added an 82-run stand.

Post lunch, Rohit was dismissed by Ollie Robinson which brought Virat Kohli to the wicket. The Indian skipper looked confident from the start and played deliveries on the front foot. He played cautiously leaving balls outside his off-stump. Anderson gave some easy deliveries to Kohli too which he did not miss out on scoring.
England bowlers had a long day despite taking two wickets in the day’s play. Anderson went for 51 runs in his 20 overs while Sam Curran went fr 40 off just nine. Ollie Robinson and Craig Overton went for 40 and 35 respectively.
Light became an issue in the final hour of the final session. However, Root did not want to leave the field. He bowled in tandem with Moeen Ali and tried to cover up for overs lost.
India Trail By 139 Runs At Stumps On Day 3
With both Pujara and Kohli approaching their milestones, Root played mind games as he decided to bring on his pacers. However, inadequate light meant that umpires had to call of the day’s play. Kohli& Pujara added 99 off 196 balls before the umpires called for stumps. India still trail by 139 runs with two days of cricket left.
Meanwhile, Twitter hailed the heroic effort from the Indian batters after they were bowled out for 78 in the first innings which for many was an aberration.

Hitman gets his half century! I think Shane Warne put it very nicely a couple balls back: Rohit is such an elegant player. A great innings so far. #ENGvIND

Has been criticised unfairly at times, but what a vital innings displaying amazing concentration and mental strength from Pujara today. And Rohit Sharma once again proving why he is extra special, adapted brilliantly curbing his natural game. #IndvsEng pic.twitter.com/N7J4sgij7O

A solid, gritty day’s cricket from #India. You’d expect nothing else from a Kohli led side, after being humbled on days 1 & 2. Still England in full control. But good to see Pujara back in the runs! #ENGvIND #ENGvsIND 🏴🇮🇳🏏

He’s had a few anxious moments, but this has been a splendid half century by #RohitSharma : mature, responsible, skilful and including some lovely front of the wicket drives

Rohit Sharma has shown such great character. To go against your natural game and bat like this, well played #INDvsEND #Headingley

Confident booster inning from @cheteshwar1 and the way @imVkohli has started leaving the ball outside the off, seems like big one is just around the corner #INDvEND

Cheteshwar Pujara today 91 not out at the close of play.
Only once before in his Test career, he was overnight unbeaten in the 90s.
Was on 98* also against England at Ahmedabad in Nov 2012
The next day he reached 206*#ENGvIND #EngvsInd#IndvEng #IndvsEng— Mohandas Menon (@mohanstatsman) August 27, 2021
After rather two difficult days, a very good day for India at Leeds today.
