ENG vs IND: Michael Vaughan Highlights Key Weakness In Star India Batter After 3rd Test Loss

Former England captain Michael Vaughan highlighted a weakness in Shubman Gill’s game following the Indian skipper’s disappointing performance in the third Test at Lord’s. Vaughan noted that the 25-year-old didn’t appear as composed or technically sound as he had during his impressive outing at Edgbaston.

Gill, who had amassed 430 runs across both innings at Edgbaston, was dismissed for 16 by Chris Woakes in the first innings at Lord’s. In the second innings, Brydon Carse removed him for just 6, delivering a major blow to India’s pursuit of a 193-run target. In his column for The Telegraph, the 50-year-old former skipper wrote:

“Shubman Gill did not look as technically tight or calm as usual when he came out to bat on the fourth evening, but his team fought so hard on Monday in a fabulous Test.”

Shubman Gill also shattered several records with his scores of 269 and 161, placing him just behind former England captain Graham Gooch for the most runs in a single Test match. He remains the top run-scorer in the series by a significant margin, having amassed 607 runs in six innings at an impressive average of 101.16.

“India Have Dominated More Sessions” – Michael Vaughan’s Honest Assessment

While Michael Vaughan praised the home team’s determination in winning two out of the three Tests, he felt that both sides are evenly balanced. He added:

“This is shaping up to be an unforgettable series, because the teams are evenly matched and there is rancour in the air. India are 2-1 down, but you’d have to say they’ve won more sessions than England. But Stokes and England’s spirit means they have won two matches they could have been well-beaten in.”

India and England will now head to Manchester for the fourth Test, set to begin on July 23. The Indian team last played a Test at this venue in 2014, suffering an innings-and-54-run defeat. So far, the visitors have failed to secure a single victory in their nine appearances at the ground.
