Shubman Gill and Eoin Morgan shared a 92-run partnership as Kolkata Knight Riders registered their first win of the IPL 2020. They defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by seven wickets at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Speaking at the end of the game, Morgan heaped praise on superstar Shubman Gill.
The young batsman from Punjab, who has been knocking the doors of the national team, showed composure to take his side home. Gill completely owned the run chase as if he belonged to the place. Although three wickets tumbled on the other end, the right-handed batsman didn’t seem perturbed at all.
Despite the omnipresence of Eoin Morgan, Shubman Gill dominated the proceedings like a real boss. He played a fine knock of 70 runs while Morgan chipped win with 42 runs during their 92-run stand as Kolkata Knight Riders open their account in IPL 2020.
Morgan showers praise on Shubman Gill
England’s World Cup-winning skipper Eoin Morgan showered heap of praise on Shubman Gill while speaking at the end of the game. The Englishman said Gill didn’t need any guide during the partnership and was a treat to the eyes as he watched from the opposite end.
“I didn’t have to tell him a great deal, to be honest, he’s beautiful to watch on the eye, good bat swing, very languid style, magnificent to watch, he’s good kid, very hungry to learn and I would love to bat with him once again. I think he deserves all the success,” Morgan said.
Meanwhile, batting first, Sunrisers Hyderabad never looked to post a challenging total after Jonny Bairstow and David Warner departed. Manish Pandey and Wriddhiman Saha struggled to get their timing right which didn’t bode well with them as Kolkata Knight Riders bowlers made a superb comeback.
Pat Cummins, in particular, was brilliant with the ball after being off-colours in the first game. Kolkata will hope to bank on this convincing win and go all guns blazing in the matches to follow.
