South African veteran Faf du Plessis was recently seen in the nets, training in a Bangladesh helmet. It confused cricketing fans, many wondering if Faf had decided to revive his career with the Asian country after being snubbed by Cricket South Africa (CSA).
But that’s not to be. Faf is currently in Bangladesh preparing for the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). According to reports, the helmet being used was a gift that du Plessis received from Tamim Iqbal, the explosive Bangladesh batsman.
Faf du Plessis plays for two-time BPL champions, the Comilla Victorians. He has been plying his trade in T20 tournaments across the globe, proving his worth as a batsman and a gun fielder. His scope for participation in these franchise tournaments has increased even more so now that the CSA no longer has him in the team’s plans going ahead.
Talking about the BPL, it is scheduled to start on January 21. However, many feel that the tournament is hardly prepared to get underway with teams not having their practice kits, squads not fully available yet and most teams not even having revealed their jerseys. It remains to be seen how Bangladesh manage to tackle their way out of this tricky situation with the brand value of the BPL and the board’s international reputation at stake.
With the IPL auctions coming up in a couple of weeks time, the players would be keen to make a mark with their performances so as to manage to grab the attention of team scouts looking for potential international talent that can come good at the international level. The BPL has six teams with players from across the world participating and showcasing their talent.
